OFFINSO MUNICIPAL NCCE HAS CALLED ON GHANAIANS TO REGISTER THEIR SIM CARDS BEFORE END SEPTEMBER

OFFINSO MUNICIPAL NCCE HAS CALLED ON GHANAIANS TO REGISTER THEIR SIM CARDS BEFORE END SEPTEMBER

The Offinso Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has call on the residents of Offinso to get involved in the ongoing SIM Card Re-registration exercise.

The sensitization campaign is a collaborative exercise between NCCE and National Communication Authority (NCA) as part of the SIM Card Re-registration to create awareness.

This National exercise allows all subscribers or mobile phone owners the opportunity to re-register their SIM Cards within a period of 6 months, starting from October 1, 2021 to March 2022. But due to the call from the general public the closing date was further extended to 31st July 2022, this date was still not sufficient for subscribers to get their Sim card registered. However after a press briefing by the Minister for Communication and the cry of Ghanaians the closing date was again extended to end on September 30, 2022.

The sensitization led by the Municipal Director, Mr. Emmanuel Oduro visited some Socio-economic groupings, Faith-based organizations, Information Centres as well as Community announcement in the Municipality.

Speaking at one of the programme at Madam Theresah fashion shop at Maase-Offinso, Mr. Emmanuel Oduro, Municipal Director of NCCE made this call to the people of Offinso how important it is to register their SIM Cards and the risk of losing their phone numbers for failure to register their SIM Cards.

According to him, the registration will help in developing and building a SIM database with integrity, boosting confidence and security for the use of services dependent on the communication networks and also would not only capture the identities of subscribers but would help in fighting fraudulent and criminal activities.

The SIM registration will also help both the NCA and MNO’s to determine at every point in time the accurate number of valid and accurate SIM’s on the network.

He further informed them that, the Ghana Card is the only acceptable mandatory document that can be used for the SIM Card re-registration. However businesses that use SIM Cards in their daily activities can use their Business certificate of incorporation together with the Ghana Card of the Director to re-register their SIM Cards.

He went ahead to remind them that they have up to 30th  September to register their SIM cards so they should do the needful so as to avoid their Sim card being blocked.
