The Offinso Municipal Assembly in collaboration with SoS Children’s Village (SoS-CV) and United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) with support from the European Union (EU) are thrilled to announce the successful graduation of 76 individuals from the Green Life Employability and Orientational Technical Training program held from 8th – 28th September, 2022 at Saboa, Offinso.
Consequently, a graduation ceremony was held on Wednesday 10th May, 2023 to officially award CfW participants who have successfully completed the training with certificates. In addition, outstanding participants were awarded for their efforts and commitment during the scheme. This remarkable event marked a significant milestone in our efforts to foster climate resilience within our communities while simultaneously boosting local economic development.
Under the esteemed guidance of the Boosting GrEEn Employment and Enterprise Opportunities (GrEEn) project, the Offinso Municipal Assembly has been steadfastly working towards the twin goals of enhancing climate adaptation and creating short-term job opportunities for the youth, women, and returning migrants in the municipality. The graduation ceremony at Saboa serves as a testament to our commitment and the remarkable progress we have achieved.
The training program witnessed the participation of 9 determined male individuals and 67 inspiring female individuals. Their dedication and passion for acquiring employability skills in the context of climate adaptation truly exemplify the spirit of sustainability and community empowerment.
Throughout the program, these graduates received comprehensive training in various employability skills that align with the overarching objective of building climate resilience. By equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge, we are fostering a generation of individuals who can actively contribute to sustainable practices while positively impacting the local economy.
As a result of the GrEEn project, the 76 graduates were able to contribute significantly to infrastructure development within our community. Their efforts led to the construction of a 30-meter concrete footbridge across Koloolo stream at Offinso-Saboa, providing a vital link for the community and enhancing access to Nasr Deen Islamic School, various resources and opportunities. Additionally, they were involved in the drilling and mechanization of two boreholes, one at Saboa and the other at Adukro, ensuring a sustainable supply of clean water for the residents.
The Boosting GrEEn Employment and Enterprise Opportunities project takes a holistic approach to address the challenges posed by climate change. By empowering individuals through employability training, we not only enhance their professional capabilities but also enable them to actively participate in community development initiatives. The footbridge and boreholes stand as tangible evidence of their hard work and dedication towards building climate resilience and improving the quality of life in Offinso.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Shaibu Fuseini, Project Coordinator for SoS-CV extended the organisation’s heartfelt congratulations to all 76 graduates who have demonstrated their dedication and perseverance throughout the journey. He was confident that the skills they have acquired will propel them towards successful careers, furthering their contributions to climate adaptation and sustainable development within our communities.
