THURSDAY 25TH MAY, 2023
The Offinso Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and with funding support from the European Union, is pleased to announce the successful implementation of the Boosting GrEEn Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana project. This transformative initiative aimed to stimulate local economies and create short-term job opportunities for youth, women, and returning migrants through the establishment of green and climate-resilient infrastructure. We are delighted to report that two significant climate-resilient projects have been completed: the construction of a 30-meter concrete footbridge, desilting of the 100-meter Koloolo stream, and extension of electricity to the bridge site in Saboa, as well as the drilling and mechanization of two boreholes in Saboa and Adukro.

To celebrate the completion of these projects and their handover to the Saboa and Adukro communities, a momentous one-day handing over ceremony was held on Thursday 25th May, 2023 at the project sites. The ceremony brought together key stakeholders, community members, cash for work beneficiaries, and esteemed guests who have been instrumental in the success of this initiative.
The event commenced with an opening address by Hon. Kingsley Owusu-Appiah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Offinso Municipal Assembly, who expressed gratitude to the UNCDF and the European Union for their support in realizing the objectives of the Boosting GrEEn Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana project. The MCE highlighted the significance of the projects in fostering local economic growth, providing job opportunities, and enhancing climate resilience in the municipality.

Following the MCE’s address, Mr. Nathan Asamoah from the UNCDF delivered remarks, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable development and their satisfaction with the outcomes of the project. He praised the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved and commended the Offinso Municipal Assembly for their dedicated implementation.
The highlight of the ceremony was the official commissioning and handover of the completed projects to the Saboa and Adukro communities. The MCE, accompanied by representatives from the UNCDF and the European Union, symbolically handed over the key infrastructure to community leaders, signifying the transfer of responsibility and ownership.
Community members and beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the projects, acknowledging the positive impact they would have on their lives. They highlighted the increased accessibility provided by the footbridge, which would enhance transportation and trade opportunities, as well as the improved access to clean and safe water through the newly drilled and mechanized boreholes.

During the ceremony, the MCE also stressed the importance of maintaining and preserving the infrastructure, urging the communities to take ownership and ensure its long-term sustainability. He emphasized the need for effective maintenance strategies and encouraged the formation of community-based management committees to oversee the proper functioning and upkeep of the projects.
In conclusion, the one-day handing over ceremony marked a significant milestone in the Boosting GrEEn Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana project in the Offinso municipality. The completion and handover of the 30-meter concrete footbridge, desilting of the 100-meter Koloolo stream, extension of electricity, and drilling and mechanization of the two boreholes in Saboa and Adukro signify a remarkable achievement in promoting green and climate-resilient infrastructure. The Offinso Municipal Assembly extends its gratitude to the UNCDF, the European Union, and all stakeholders involved for their unwavering support throughout the project implementation. We remain committed to sustainable development and will continue to work diligently to improve the lives of our communities.
