ABOFOUR CELEBRATES WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR, OFFINSO MUNICIPALITY

ABOFOUR CELEBRATES WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR, OFFINSO MUNICIPALITY

The global fight against child labour found strong resonance in Abofour, a vibrant community within Ghana’s Offinso Municipality. On June 12th, a collaborative effort aimed to dismantle child exploitation and build a brighter future for children.
The Offinso Municipal Assembly, joining forces with the Offinso Fine Flavour Cooperative, Winrock International, and crucial funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, orchestrated a impactful program. Titled “Let’s Act Now: End Child Labour in Cocoa!”, the initiative aimed to raise awareness and spark decisive action.
A thought-provoking radio discussion on Boamang’s Fish FM (88.5) kicked off the program a week prior. This crucial platform fostered open discussions on the devastating impact of child labour and the urgent need for collective action. Esteemed representatives from Winrock International, the Municipal Child Protection Committee (MCPC), and the Offinso Fine Flavour Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Society shared their expertise and real-life experiences, igniting a wave of change within Abofour.
A vibrant float parade energized Abofour’s streets on June 14th. Eye-catching banners, impactful messages, and powerful imagery denounced child labour. This energetic display of unity drew a diverse crowd, including enthusiastic schoolchildren, dedicated teachers, representatives from Municipal Child Protection Committees, committed media personnel, and engaged community members. All united under the banner of ending child labour.
The day culminated in a well-attended community durbar, a powerful symbol of collective action. Stakeholders, community leaders, and government officials came together for productive discussions on strategies and concrete actions to eradicate child labour. Speeches, goodwill messages, and captivating cultural performances served a dual purpose. They highlighted successful existing initiatives and emphasized the importance of a unified approach to safeguarding children’s fundamental rights.
