In an important working visit to the Offinso Traditional Council, the Colombian Ambassador to Ghana His Excellency Daniel Garces Carabali paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Offinso Traditional Council Nana Dwamena Akenten III at his office on Tuesday, 24th June, 2024 to discuss some key issues.
The Ambassador was accompanied by a delegation comprising Deputy Head of Missions, Executive Secretary, his children, cousin and Queen mother of Kayera Nana Ama Serwaa Wiafe.
According to the Ambassador he was glad to visit Offinso but he has been in a conversation with the Queen mother of Kayera. His the visit was focused on strengthen the relationship between Offinso and Colombia, to explore trade, commence and farming. He extended an invitation to the paramount chief and queen mothers who are into farming to visit Columbia this August to witness the annual festival to explore both cultures and to strengthen their bilateral relationship. He again extended educational scholarship to the youth of Offinso who wish to further their education in Colombia University.
The visit emphasized on the growing bilateral ties between Colombia. The meeting demonstrated the commitment of both Offinso and Colombia to foster cooperation and addressed challenges.
The Municipal Chief Executive welcomed the Ambassador to Offinso and assured him of his support. He said the municipality was facing some challenges which is unemployment amongst the youth, he said the Paramount Chief and the Assembly had collaborated to build a Social Center to promote social activities amongst the youth but unfortunately the facility had stalled because of funds.
The Paramount Chief reiterated the need for further collaboration between Offinso and Colombia. He said Offinso has the largest lands in the entire Ashanti Region. The indigenes are predominately farmers, they farm on maize, cocoa, mango, cashew, groundnut, rearing of animals etc. he also informed them that the municipality has some challenges when it come to sanitary pads for the youth especially students.
The Ambassador of Colombia presented drinks to the traditional council. The Paramount chief of Offinso also presented a Kente cloth and a native sandals for the Ambassador.
